The Alliance of Tribal Nations was developed with the support of local First Nations to carry out research for communities that have claims within the specific claims process.
In Canada, there are 700 claims in the system against the government of Canada due to breaches by government regarding historical land transactions.
If a community doesn’t support a decision made by the federal government, the community may forward an appeal to a tribunal. This tribunal is made up of three former judges in the federal system. The government of Canada has not made a decision to renew the mandate of the tribunal.
